IMAGES OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC

Left Galapagos for the 3000 mile crossing to the Marquesas which took 24 days, 1 day less than our Atlantic crossing. Picked up this Boobie as a passenger for 3 days. On arrival the hull was covered in goose barnacles which had to be scraped off. The Marquesas are volcanic islands covered in lush vegetation, probably due to the amount of rain that falls. They are truly spectacular. We were entertained with a hog roast and Polynesian dancing. Next stop after a 4 day passage was the Tuamotus, volcanic atolls, coral reefs surrounding a lagoon. They are very low lying so navigation has to be very careful. The lagoon is enterred through a pass through which a strong current flows. The colour and clarity of the water here is fantastic. We had a fish BBQ on the beach and caught an octopus. Many reef sharks which are harmless and we swam with them. Black pearls are farmed here by a process of culture. They are then made up into jewellery. Local children love to play in the dinghies. We are now in Tahiti.

1) Send the booby over here, the new trust board will find him a job.
2) Collect all the goose barnacles. They are a delicacy in Spain and will fetch a good price.

When I was a young boy
My mama said to me
There's only one girl in the world for you
And she probably lives in Tahiti

I'd go the whole wide world
I'd go the whole wide world
Just to find her

Or maybe she's in the Bahamas
Where the Carribbean sea is blue
Weeping in a tropical moonlit night
Because nobody's told her 'bout you

etc.

I'm down here in the South of France with the lovely June and we've had Mr Burns and his wife with us, smashing, lovely times.
We'll be back in blighty next Friday 8th May - but thinking of you two.

Some of the best skiing I've ever had in St Anton last week.

Keep sending the messages - the wine is great here in the South of France.

Just to let you know that we are sending SMS's from time to time but they are not getting through. This must be because you are out of range of a mast or something - we will continue trying when we think of you.

Keep on having fun!!!

Love
